Directly after the release of Toto IV, bassist David Hungate left the band. Hungate, who had relocated to Nashville in 1980 to pursue a session/production profession, felt that the celebrity surrounding Toto IV would prevent him from spending time together with his family. A third Porcaro brother, Mike Porcaro, who had carried out cello on a monitor from Toto IV, changed Hungate on bass, whereas lead singer Bobby Kimball spent the early a half of 1983 dealing with prosecution for drug-related expenses. Toto then embarked upon the "Planet Earth" tour that lasted from September till December 1990. The band did not get together with Byron, whose diva-like conduct and flamboyant stage presence triggered friction during the tour.
